At midnight on October 6th, the Government imposed nationwide Level 3 restrictions.
While the aim is to slow the spread of COVID-19, the restrictions will impact businesses all over the country.
Here, we break down what Level 3 consists of and which businesses will be affected.
Hospitality
Restaurants and cafes (which includes pubs serving food and wet pubs) can stay open for outdoor dining under Level 3. However, a 15-person limit applies. Hotels can also stay open, but services will only be available to residents.
Level 3 restrictions will also impact wet pubs in Dublin as they must remain closed.
Retail
Once protective measures and face-covering rules are in place, the retail sector can carry on as it had been in Level 2. That said, restrictions are likely to reduce the number of people shopping in-store.
Cultural attractions
Under Level 3, galleries, museums, and other cultural attractions must close.
Libraries, however, can remain open for certain services.
Education
Employers with working parents will have been paying close attention to any announcements regarding education.
Under Level 3, schools and creches can remain open once protective measures are in place.
Working from home and public transport
Two affected areas that go hand in hand are office/on-site work and public transport. Under Level 3 restrictions, people must work from home unless it’s absolutely necessary that they attend work in person.
For those that do use public transport, face coverings must be worn. Capacities will also be limited to 50%.
All in all, public transport should be used for essential workers and essential purposes only.
Gatherings
To help curtail the spread of COVID-19, household gatherings are limited to six people, with visitors from one other household only.
Outdoor gatherings are limited to 15 people, while indoor gatherings such as training events are not allowed.
