Minister Simon Harris has launched a new incentive scheme to encourage employers to take on more apprentices. The scheme is one of many recruitment incentives announced as part of the July Jobs Stimulus package.
Employer entitlement
Employers could be entitled to as much as €3,000 for taking on new apprentices under the scheme. The financial incentive will be available to employers who take on an apprentice between March 1st, 2020, and the end of this year.
Employers who participate in the scheme will receive €2,000 upfront per apprentice and a further €1,000 after 12 months if the apprentice is still employed by the business.
Current situation
There are currently over 18,000 people undertaking apprenticeships in areas such as:
- Construction
- Electrical
- Engineering
- Financial services
- Healthcare
- IT
The Government is hoping this new incentive will encourage employers across all sectors to increase the number of apprenticeships they offer.
