The National Minimum Wage is likely to increase by 25c at the beginning of 2019. The low pay commission have put forward a recommendation for a €0.25 increase to the national minimum wage.
Currently, the National Minimum Wage in Ireland is €9.55 per hour, this minimum wage was set at the beginning of 2018.
The €0.25 increase will bring the minimum wage up to €9.80 per hour.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said “the increase will put Ireland’s national minimum wage amongst the top five in Europe” in terms of highest minimum wage payments.
Cabinet ministers are in agreement with the increase, therefore, it’s likely the wage increase will come into effect in January 2019.
If introduced this will be the fifth minimum wage increase since 2011 when the minimum wage was €8.65 per hour.
