With the recent warm weather, the advice line has had a number of calls from employers with problems with employees not wearing the company uniform or not adhering to the company dress code.
It is important when addressing this that you can refer to the company policy and re-issue the policy to all staff. If there are employees who are wearing items that are against health and safety requirement, such as open toe shoes, for example, it is important that the company take appropriate action such as providing the correct footwear or requiring the employee to change before the commencement of their shift.
Another issue that employers can be faced with in the summer months is poor personal hygiene, this is an issue that is uncomfortable for all managers to have to address. Emailing or circulating a dress code and personal hygiene standards policy can sometimes be enough to nip the problem in the bud however on occasion this may not be sufficient. A subtle conversation is the best way to address to try and avoid embarrassment.
