The Government’s Roadmap for Reopening has so far proved to be a very fluid document. To accelerate the reopening of the economy further, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar recently announced changes that will allow more businesses to reopen from Monday, June 29th.
Childcare sector reopens
While the Government recommendation that those who can work from home should continue to do so remains in place, Phase 3 could see many remote workers return to work. In an effort to facilitate a return to onsite work, the childcare sector will fully reopen from June 29th. This includes créches, childminding facilities, pre-schools and summer camps.
More businesses reopening
Several businesses that were first scheduled to reopen in Phase 4 will now reopen in Phase 3. The ‘higher risk’ businesses that may reopen on June 29th include:
- Wellbeing services like chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture, reflexology and homoeopathy.
- Hairdressers, barbers, nail and brow salons, beauty salons, spas, make-up application services, tanning, tattooing and piercing services.
- Indoor gyms and exercise facilities.
- Sports clubs and swimming pools.
- Yoga, pilates and dance studios.
- Cinemas, music venues (excluding nightclubs and discos), leisure facilities, bingo halls, arcades, skating rinks, amusements parks.
- Theatres, concert halls and other cultural outlets.
- All remaining retail (for example, bookmakers), services and commercial activities.
Along with the above, the following businesses were already scheduled to reopen on June 29th under the revised Roadmap:
- Pubs and hotel bars operating as restaurants.
- Cafés and restaurants providing on premises food and beverages.
- Hotels, hostels, caravan parks and holiday parks.
- Museums, galleries.
Restrictions in place on gatherings
For the duration of Phase 3, restrictions on gatherings will need to be followed by all businesses. Indoor gatherings of up to 50 people and outdoor gatherings of up to 200 people are allowed once businesses comply with public health advice.
Who remains to reopen in Phase 4?
Remaining businesses, and the economy in general, look set to fully reopen on July 20th. Pubs, bars, hotel bars, nightclubs and casinos are permitted to reopen, while restrictions on gatherings will increase to 100 indoors and 500 outdoors.
Return to work
